Is it possible to surf in the Seychelles islands?

Seychelles is one of the most beautiful locations in the world to learn how to surf, the waves are generally clean, small and perfect for beginners. World class waves are available in Seychelles for those lucky enough to time the swell. We usually say that surfing in Seychelles is a great add-on to a holiday but generally not consistent enough to plan a boys surf trip.

Seychelles can have surf all year round but not every day, we would say the best time for small clean waves would be between November and March, from April to October we can get some bigger surf more suited for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Where is iSurf based in Seychelles?

We are located on the beachfront of the Kempinski Resort in the South West of Mahe Island. We offer pick up and drop off from most locations on Mahe, please get in touch for further info: info@isurfseychelles.com or on WhatsApp: +2482543069

Do you have any Surf schools on Praslin or La Digue?

As for the moment iSurf is the only licensed surf school in the Seychelles and we only operate on Mahe.

Where is the best location to stay if I want to Surf?

We always recommend staying in the south west of Mahe, here you have access to more waves than any other area. Renting a car makes life a lot easier, taxis are very expensive and public transport will not let you travel with your surfboard.

We recommend the following for accommodation;

Is the Seychelles a safe destination?

We have travelled the world and think that Seychelles has to be one of the safest countries. Having said that there is still poverty and petty crimes are common, always make sure to lock your car and never leave your items unattended on a beach.

What are the best spots/beaches for surfing in the Seychelles?

There are many waves on Mahe and some more popular than others. Out of respect for the local surf community we prefer not to give any information on location of waves. Have fun exploring the coast or book a surf guide trip with us.

Can I take part in iSurf activities if I do not know how to swim?

We would not recommend any watersport activities for anyone that is not a confident swimmer. Please get in touch with us if you would like to learn how to swim in Seychelles, info@isurfseychelles.com

What is the age limit for iSurf activities?

As long as somebody is a confident swimmer, all our activities are available.ย

Are there sharks in Seychelles?

Yes there are sharks in Seychelles however there have hardly ever been any reported issues. There were 2 attacks on the same beach with 10days of each other in 2011 but that is the only case. The spots where we surf are super safe in that regard especially when compared to the surrounding region i.e Reunion

Can I kite surf in Seychelles ?

There is some kite surfing done in Seychelles but as far as we know there are no commercial kite surfing operations in Seychelles at this time. We do intend on adding this service in the future if we continue getting the large amount of enquiry we do for this.

Should I bring my own surfboard to Seychelles?

You are welcome to bring your own board but board hires are part of the deal with guided tours, lessons and obviously hire boards. Travelling with a surfboard the size that may be necessary to make the most of the surf can be difficult. So our suggestion is to hire one of ours during your stay.ย  500scr per day with a 20% discount applying after 5 consecutive days hire.

Is it safe to surf in Seychelles?

Yes, surfing in seychelles would have to one of the safer places in the world. Due to the often clear and inviting waters surfing in the right conditions can be a dream come true for many surfers. The reefs are generally not unforgiving of those of Indo and Maldives for instance.

What should I bring to a surf lesson with iSurf Seychelles?

Bring a towel, some water and sun protection - we provide the rest including, rash vest, booties (if needed), board, transport and instructors.
